No. Of course not. We would never suggest that you literally spill your precious tea. Or ours, for that matter. That could be a disaster – especially if you’re wearing white. But, then again, you wouldn’t be wearing white after Labor Day, would you? Not unless you’re dressed up as a snowflake for your local holiday pageant. 😉
We’re talking about spilling tea. As in, dishing. Sharing the juicy details, okay? Call it gossip. Call it confession. Call it truth. Which starts with “T”… Get it? Spill the T(ea). The origin of this sweet idiom isn’t quite as cloudy as a cup of English Breakfast with milk, but close. Some say it goes all the way back to the late 18th century when ladies would gather together and gossip while drinking tea. There’s not a lot of evidence for that. But there’s much agreement that it really gained traction in Black drag circles in the early 1990s and gained popularity on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
So we’re spilling some winter tea: China Mist tea is refreshing during the summer and also comforting during the winter. Yes, even iced tea.
